He is also the grandson and namesake of the late Very Reverend Nicholas Elias, a beloved Greek Orthodox priest, teacher, and author. Nick follows in these footsteps by tutoring at the local community college.

Dr. Elias received a BA in physics (Russian minor) and BSEE in electrical engineering (astronomy minor) from Lehigh University, both magna cum laude. He also received MS and PhD degrees in Astronomy and Astrophysics from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa, Tau Beta Pi, and Eta Kappa Nu national honor societies, as well as the American Astronomical Society and International Astronomical Union. Nick has worked at the United States Naval Observatory, Ball Aerospace and Technologies Corporation, Zentrum fuer Astronomie der Universitaet Heidelberg Landessternwarte, Max-Planck-Institut fuer Astronomie, and National Radio Astronomy Observatory. He was an adjunct professor at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in both the physics and electrical engineering departments. He is an avid amateur radio operator who communicates all over the world using international Morse code.
